Sustainability at Renesas 

Our products and solutions reflect our long-term commitment to building a more sustainable future for our customers, employees, business partners and investors. Leveraging advanced technologies and combined expertise, we strive to meet our own Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) objectives and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Since founding the Sustainability Promotion Office in 2020, we have worked closely with our internal and external stakeholders, including our employees, Board of Directors, investors, customers, suppliers, industry, and mission-driven organizations. As an industry leader, we continue to shape the innovation landscape and improve our quality of life, while making steadfast progress toward achieving our ESG goals.

Renesas has established medium- to long-term goals for key sustainability issues and is actively working towards achieving them.

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions

• Reduce by 38% by 2030 vs. 2021 base year 

• Achieve carbon neutrality by 2050

Water Conservation

• Reduce water intensity by 38% by 2030 vs. 2021 base year 

• Realize a 35% water recycling rate by 2030 vs. 2021 base year

Waste Management

• Maintain waste recycling rate at 90% or more globally each year

Eco-Product

• Maintain 90% or more Green Device ratio of newly mass produced products



Supplier Risk Evaluation

• Ensure all key suppliers obtain an RBA SAQ score of “medium” or below

On-Site Supplier Audit

• Audit all key suppliers within three years

Conflict Minerals

• Achieve 100% conflict-free 3TGs (Tungsten, Tantalum, Tin and Gold)

Occupational Health & Safety

• Achieve ISO 45001 for all major manufacturing sites [Achieved in Q1 2024]

Board Gender Diversity

• Advance gender equality with women holding at least 30% of the board seats [Achieved in Q1 2024] 


Independent Directors

• Aim for over 50% independent directors [Achieved in Q1 2024]
