Renesas is looking for candidates with strong software engineering backgrounds to join our Bourne End office. The role is hybrid - allowing a mixture of office and remote work.
The Eclipse team is a software tools team that specializes in embedded tools development. This team works on the latest Renesas Integrated Development Environment (IDE) which allows customers to create, build, and debug their application software on Renesas devices.
This role is focused on the development and enhancement of e2 studio debugger.
Job Summary
Candidates will have the opportunity to be responsible for end-to-end software development from requirements to implementation and test.
A knowledge and interest in microcontrollers is an advantage. A large proportion of the work relates to debugging microcontrollers. The e2 studio tooling adds advanced debugging features that make it easier for engineers to debug their embedded applications. Key features are items such as powerful tracing and performance monitoring features and multicore debugging for new Renesas devices.
The team uses agile methodologies (Scrum) to develop all parts of the product.
The product is the e² studio development environment which is based on the open source Eclipse tool. An overview of this can be seen here:

- This role is a C++ software development role.
- Good object-orientated software design skills are expected as part of this role.
- Specifically, it is focusing on supporting new Renesas devices with our back-end debugger.
- The backend debugger is based on the GDB remote protocol. Some knowledge of this is very useful for the role.
- All software is targeted for cross-platform for Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
