Director – Engineering (MCU)

Role Overview

Renesas is seeking a Director – MCU to lead and scale our microcontroller portfolio under the India‑for‑India (IFI) charter. This role is central to defining product strategy, architecture, and flawless execution of MCU platforms tailored to India’s fast‑growing market needs—while remaining globally competitive.

The position combines strong business acumen, deep technical leadership, people management, and cross‑functional execution ownership. The Director will drive decisions from build vs. buy, architecture and silicon execution, through customer engagement and product delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead MCU build decisions, define execution strategy, and assemble high‑performing teams for product delivery.
• Own portfolio decision making and execution—from concept through silicon bring‑up, validation, and production—ensuring quality, schedule, and cost targets are met.

• Drive MCU architecture, micro‑architecture, and design requirements, aligned with market, customer, and system needs.
• Provide technical leadership across RTL design, performance optimization, and power‑aware architectures (UPF‑based low‑power design).

• Collaborate closely with IP, technology, packaging, and global cross‑functional teams to ensure coherent system and silicon decisions.
• Act as the technical bridge across architecture, RTL, physical design, verification, software, validation, test, and system teams.
• Support silicon validation, system integration, and production test readiness.

• Liaise closely with software and product teams to ensure firmware, drivers, and ecosystem readiness align with silicon delivery.

• Work with Sales, Marketing, and customers as needed to define roadmaps, clarify requirements, manage technical discussions, and support key engagements.

• Drive strong decision‑making  across Technology, Packaging, IP, Architecture, Implementation, Test, and Product Engineering.
• Build and mentor teams, establish execution discipline, and foster a results‑driven, quality‑focused engineering culture.

Qualifications & Experience

• B.Tech / M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Computer Science.
• 15+ years of experience in SoC / IP / MCU design, with 5+ years in technical leadership or management roles.
• Deep expertise in processor‑based controller architectures, including ARM‑based MCUs, DMA, and interfaces such as USB, PCIe, SPI, and other peripherals.
• Working familiarity with RTL. Design Verification, DFT, Physical Design, Software, and Silicon Validation flows.
• Proficiency with scripting and design automation tools.
• Ability to balance hands‑on technical depth with strategic and organizational leadership.
• Excellent communication, structured problem‑solving, and experience leading globally distributed, cross‑disciplinary teams.
