The Renesas IoT and Infrastructure Business Unit (IIBU) has a very broad range of innovative semiconductor solutions addressing 5G, Cloud Computing, Smart Factory/Home, consumer and industrial applications. The IIBU group is looking for a high energy, analytical, and self-driven system application engineer who will be responsible for characterization and development of reference design and EVK for sensor related products, with the initial focus on thermopile sensors and sensor arrays for various applications including NDIR gas analysis.

 

Responsibilities:
The sensor development group in IIBU is responsible for developing and productizing of multiple sensors, including thermopile sensors, gas sensors, flow sensors, pressure sensors, etc., for applications ranging from consumer, communication, home appliance to industry, agriculture, science and defense.  The team develops or co-develops the sensors (typically MEMS based), silicon based sensor signal conditioners, sensor signal processors and the calibration/compensation/processing/conversion algorithms. The system application engineer will build-up deep knowledge in this business field and take over the responsibility of sensor characterization and calibration (including methodology and algorithm) and EVK development based on Renesas thermopile and other sensors. The engineer will give distribution channels, sales and customers technical support and trainings on our sensor solutions and their applications. Furthermore he will be supporting integration of the sensor module into a higher level system with wired or  wireless interfaces.

 

Key responsibilities:

• Know how built-up for characterization/calibration and applications of thermopile sensor, thermopile sensor array and other sensors
• Customer design-in support for system integration, analyze, debug and resolve issues quickly.
• Developing technical documentation (e.g. datasheet, application notes, and design guidelines)
• Design and modify evaluation kits – schematic design, board layout, software/GUI development
• Contribute to the definition of innovative and differentiated products
• Failure analysis support
• Competitive analysis
• System level testing and characterization
• Work closely with local and remote teams (FAE’s, design, test / product engineering, marketing) to perform the tasks listed above

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics
  • 5-8 years of working experience in related fields  
  • Strong analytical mind and being able to do independent research work and convert the results into algorithms and implementation and verify them in real electronic systems
  • Prior experience as a system application engineer in semiconductor or related industries
  • Understanding of analog, mixed signal, and power electronics circuits and systems
  • Very good understanding in SW implementation and micro controller based system design 
  • Familiarity with analog circuits and/or IC design including op-amps, DACs, ADCs is desirable 
  • Ability to analyze, debug, and solve a wide variety of problems
  • Work across time zones with a worldwide team
  • Take ownership of project tasks and responsibilities 
  • Familiar with PCB design with high speed and sensitive signals, including schematic, layout, BOM selection
