What we need: We are seeking a Sr. Manager of Device Engineering for our Tempe, AZ design center to develop cutting edge switching power MOSFETs for 12V to 80V applications.  You will oversee the full product cycle from conception of architecture through final product characterization.  This will involve setting priorities for, and managing: the development of novel device structures, optimization for performance and ruggedness using TCAD simulation, creation of technology process flows and specs, and the development of test and characterization methods to demonstrate device/process capability and limits.  You will interface with the fab to develop cost-effective, manufacturable designs and consult with IC design teams developing the MOSFET drivers. 

 

What You’ll do:

  • Organize and manage all device design activities
    • Guide device design engineers in the development of power switching devices
    • Identify and adopt sim tools and methodologies needed for ongoing improvements in development cycle times
    • Prioritize intelligent R&D experiments to minimize development time
    • Manage and develop world class device team covering all areas of expertise necessary for ongoing success
  • Lead the engagement with the fab
    • Drive the development of proprietary process flows
    • Identify process capabilities and tooling needed to support MOSFET design goals
    • Oversee fab activities to ensure our interests in cost, performance, quality and reliability are well represented
    • Manage and interface fab throughout the device development
  • Coordinate with other product disciplines
    • Product definition and scheduling with Marketing
    • Product characterization, signoff and release with Product and Applications Engineering
    • Provide design support, as needed, for yield, quality, reliability, and performance issues on released products

Skills You’ll Need:

  • PhD preferred
  • Required experience - 15yrs' relevant experience, management experience
    • Demonstrated track record of leading the development of commercially successful power MOSFET products
    • Direct experience in advanced Switching Power MOSFET structures
  • Expertise in most or all of the following
    • Power Semiconductor Devices
    • Process Integration
    • Semiconductor Device Physics    
    • Semiconductor Device Reliability
    • Materials Science
    • TCAD modeling and simulation
    • Device layout
    • Project management
  • Thorough understanding of switched-mode power applications
    • Implications of packaging and PCB parasitics during switching
    • Implications of package and PCB materials on thermal characteristics
    • Influence of / requirements for MOSFET driver
  • Strong organizational, communications and technical skills are essential.  This is a highly visible role in which the organization will look to you as the guide for priorities in all aspects of new device development.
