Power Module Principal Applications Engineer

 

The Power Module Principal Applications Engineer interfaces with Product, Test, Design and Applications Engineering with a focus on customer systems application/design-in and collateral related tasks for new and existing products. The preferred candidate must have a deep understanding of semiconductors, magnetics and module design. The Engineer must be capable of defining and validating complete power modules based on their system level knowledge and on integrated circuits available from our industry leading design teams.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Define leading-edge power modules based on competitive analysis and understanding of customer needs.
  • Support customer applications by designing, building and testing demonstration and reference design circuits to meet customer specifications.
  • Write product datasheets with applications sections, application notes, internal and external presentations and demo board user manuals, responsible for all text, graphs and diagrams.
  • Design Customer Evaluation Kits in conjunction with GUIs/software that will be used by customers to evaluate Renesas Power Module products.
  • Perform and design Lab tests (using manual and automatic methods of measurement) to verify, characterize, and prevent future failures of analog/power management circuits using Lab benchtop equipment. 
  • Design and assist with building application test fixtures, new device evaluation and customer demo boards including demo board instruction manuals and product datasheets. This includes management of personnel involved in printed circuit boards, selection and acquisition of components, board assembly and circuit troubleshooting.  
  • Direct contact with customers and field application engineering staff for creating design solutions and troubleshooting system design problems. 
  • Participate in team meetings; assist the product development and validation based on an approved test list and generate a summary report. 

  

Qualifications:

  • BS or above in Power Electronics Engineering or equivalent with minimum of 10 years’ experience in the power supply industry
  • Understanding of basic topology, control loop theory and its application in power converters
  • Proficiency with SIMPLIS or similar circuit simulator in a switching regulator context
  • Proficiency with PCB CAD tools for both schematic and layout.
