Job Function:  Hardware Engineering

Renesas Electronics America (REA) is a dynamic, multi-cultural tech company where employees can learn, mentor, and thrive.  REA brings together the strong financial foundation of a multi-billion-dollar global operation and the flexibility and velocity of a smaller organization.  We are developing technologies for the latest advances in industrial and space applications.  Our solutions are at the heart of products developed by the major innovators around the world.  Join us and be part of what’s next in electronics.

This is an opportunity to join a top-notch power MOSFET design team. As part of Renesas’s Rad Hard design team, this Engineer will work on next-generation power MOSFET products for space and other multiple markets.

What We Need:

We are seeking a Staff MOSFET Validation Engineer to characterize cutting edge discrete power MOSFETs for 12V to 250V applications.  You will participate in the full product cycle from the device engineering phase through final product characterization.  This will involve developing test and characterization methods to demonstrate device performance, reliability, and electrical and thermal limits.  You will interface with a team of highly experienced device and process integration engineers to develop reliable, high performance devices for some of the world’s most demanding applications and customers.  This is a high visibility position with potential to make significant business and technological impacts.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with device design engineers to develop and implement robust MOSFET characterization and rating methodologies.
  • Perform in-depth electrical and thermal characterization of discrete MOSFET prototypes and compile measurements for design team analysis.
  • Assist in developing evaluation boards for measuring MOSFET datasheet characteristics and evaluating performance in typical circuit applications.
  • Refine and maintain MOSFET validation plan for new technologies.  This includes helping to identify and define test and characterization requirements for new technologies based on device electrical ratings, package type, and expected application stresses to ensure performance and reliability in real-world operation.
  • Measure and compile results for MOSFET datasheets.
  • Provide test and application engineering support for existing power MOSFET products.

Skills You’ll Need:

• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status

• M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or relevant field with 8+ years outstanding experience in power semiconductor device characterization (or B.S. with equivalent experience)

• Expertise in the following areas

  • Power MOSFET electrical and thermal parameters and ratings
  • Working knowledge of power semiconductor device reliability
  • Power MOSFET circuit applications and resulting device stresses
  • Power semiconductor device test and characterization equipment and methodologies
    • Lab Safety Procedures
    • JEDEC Standards for Discrete MOSFETs
    • Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer
    • Oscilloscope
    • Programmable Power Supply
    • Function Generator
    • LCR Meter
    • Cabling
    • Soldering
    • Printed Circuit Board Design
    • Manual Wafer Probe Station
    • Curve Tracer
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Labview, Python or similar programming for data acquisition

Desired Experience:

  • MIL-STD and MIL-PRF standards for discrete MOSFETs
  • JMP statistical analysis software

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
