Renesas Electronics America is seeking an Applications Engineer to help support customers using microcontrollers (MCU) in space applications. The ideal candidate will communicate with and support our customer base for MCU related issues. This will entail the candidate to become an expert in their supported devices, both in hardware and software.  In addition, the candidate will be responsible for hardware and software projects that will add value to the customers and provide sales and marketing collateral to attract new customers. This is a mid-career level position that requires industry experience, with an emphasis on customer support and engagement. 

Description

• Become the technical expert on assigned products
• Provide outstanding technical support to the customer base throughout the lifetime of the development cycle
• Support the sales and marketing team to help secure customer adoption of MCU products
• Develop embedded applications and reference designs for space customers
• Publish supporting technical documents and application notes
• Train and support the technical sales team
• Interface with the MCU design team to fully understand the architecture and implementation of the products
• Develop radiation test plans for Single Event Effects and Total Ionizing Dose
• Must be able to travel 10 – 20% of the time 

 

Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in developing ARM MCU-based products and systems
• Knowledge of modern CPU architectures such as ARM M0+, M4, M7 in MCU implementation
• Hardware design experience
• Hands on testing and debug skills

Desired Skills and Knowledge:
• Experience interacting with and supporting customers, specifically on technical issues
• Exposure to space electronics requirements
• Radiation test experience and/or radiation effects in electronics is a plus
• Board level analog/mixed signal design
• Familiarity with analog circuits such as ADCs, DACs, op-amps as well as power management IC’s
• Experience developing embedded systems and debugging, using IDEs like ARM Keil, IAR, etc.
• Familiarity with FreeRTOS
• Knowledge of interface protocols such as Ethernet, CAN Bus, Space Wire, SPI, I2C, etc. 

 

Education

BSEE or MSEE degree
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in MCU development
