Job Description:

Renesas Electronics America is seeking a Staff Application Engineer who will work with a team of engineers to develop advanced MCU-based solutions. This role will be a Full time engagement based out of our Durham, NC or Milpitas, CA office.
 
Responsibilities: 

• Provide excellent technical support throughout the customer design lifecycle with embedded real-time solutions using Renesas 16-bit to 32-bit MCUs, tools, and design environment.  Expertise level of RL78, RX, Synergy, and RA MCU knowledge is required to provide at site or remote technical support thru Renesas ticketing system quickly to resolve customer issues. 
• Develop embedded applications and reference designs using Renesas MCUs to showcase suitability of devices for different solutions including but not limited to low-power, connectivity with TCPIP, USB, CAN, SPI, UART, and I2C, IoT applications with technologies MQTT, HTTPS, Bluetooth, in-field program updates using bootloaders, and low level peripheral drivers.  Experience with implementation of technologies on Renesas MCUs.
• Develop supporting technical documents and application notes.  Experience with property RL78, RX MCU cores and ARM M0+, M3, M4, M23, M33 Synergy, and RA MCU cores. 
• Create custom solutions, example projects, and Proof-of-Concept (PoC) designs to win new business.  Collect requirements, analyze and applicability with Renesas MCUs, create and implement example and PoCs without much oversight and management. 
• Prepare and document system requirements, design specifications and test plans.  Create detailed design documentation and applications notes with executable ready projects for RL78, RX, Synergy, and RA MCU family devices.   
• Prepare and present internal (sales and channel) and external (customer) technical trainings to promote and increase ease of use Renesas MCU tools and products.  Ability to explain complex technical subjects and provide solid solutions in a class or remote setting.

• Log and report MCU HW, SW, and tools issues with enough details thru internal systems to the design and development teams.  Follow up with design teams on issue fixes, test and verify timely resolution. 

• Expert level C, C++ Python programming skills.  Other programming languages and expertise in tools including JIRA, GitHub, GNU GCC compliers, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, scopes, in-circuit debuggers and emulators.

• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Azure RTOS, FreeRTOS usage preferably on Renesas MCUs.

• Prior working experience as an AE or FAE in semiconductor industry.  Working with Renesas MCUs is a big plus.   

 

Qualifications:

Requirements: 
• BSEE or MSEE degree
• 5+ years of experience with at least 3 years in the embedded area
• Demonstrated experience in developing ARM MCU-based products/systems
• Expert level C programming skills
• Experience with RTOS, drivers, middleware integration skills for embedded MCUs
• Hands-on system bring-up, testing, and debugging skills
• Experience designing or using embedded system development tools
• Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
• Must be fluent in English

 

Desired Skills & Experience: 
• Technologies in USB, TCP/IP, MQTT, HTTPS, TLS, security, cryptography, encryption/decryption, key management, and IoT applications on AWS, MS Azure, and Google Cloud. 
• Board level analog and mixed-signal design experience
• Familiarity with analog circuits design including op-amps, DACs, ADCs
• System level design and integration tools including schematic capture and board layout
• Prior working experience as an AE or FAE in semiconductor industry

 

Education:

• BSEE or MSEE degree
