The Mobile Display Power Applications Team supports new product development and customer support activities for Renesas’ high-performance, highly integrated DCDC power converter and analog solutions for consumer mobile flat panel display applications.


What we need:

The team is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Engineering Technician to provide technical and logistical support all the team’s Applications Engineers and help manage the team’s lab. The candidate must be highly skilled in evaluation board assembly and rework, and capable of owning and managing varying support and logistics tasks daily. The candidate will provide assistance as necessary for customer support activities (e.g. board building, inventory and sampling, etc.), preparing for new silicon (e.g. board design and layout, components ordering/lab stock, etc.) and provide primary support during silicon bring-up, debug, validation/characterization, and design-in activities.  Lab management is also a key responsibility, from ensuring ISO compliance, equipment management (e.g. assigning equipment, calibrations and repairs), PR/PO tracking, lab stock and inventory management, lab organization and cleanliness.  Foreseeing and solving problems ahead of time are critical, as well as identifying procedural issues and process improvements.  The candidate must be self-motivated, passionate, and ready to take ownership and responsibility of all aspects of the role. They should bring a positive and supporting attitude to the lab and team.


What You’ll Do

  • Support Applications Engineering team activities, to ensure milestones and commitments are met successfully.  Evaluation board assembly/build, technical and sensitive rework, debugging, system teardown and analysis are key. Ability to (re)work with chip scale packages.
  • Ensure customer evaluation kit requests are delivered – including proper packaging of all items and collateral, shipping invoice generation.
  • Support PCB schematic design play integral role in PCB design/layout activities, and develop collateral such as bill of materials, and final PDF files that can be shared with customers. Manage all files in a central location with clear names and revision control.
  • Manage the Applications Engineering Lab – inventory/stock, organization, cleanliness, equipment management including repair and calibration as needed to ensure compliance to ISO requirements, ESD compliance.
  • Drive generation of necessary purchase requests and capital expenses (e.g. gathering quotes with best pricing from qualified vendors, providing supporting justifications, etc.), and tracking and managing of PR and PO to ensure vendor payment
  • Perform basic electrical and functional tests for boards, ICs, etc. using laboratory equipment, and guided by the Applications Engineers
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform support tasks
  • Identify potential logistical issues and barriers to projects or task completion, ahead of time, and be proactive to resolve them
  • Assist Applications Engineering manager to identify ways to improve processes, interactions, operations, within the team


Skills You’ll Need

  • 6+ Years’ of related industry experience required, as an Engineering Technician supporting a Product/Test or Applications type of team at a semiconductor company. Preferably with experience in analog and power management.
  • Strong hands-on skills, ability and willingness to work in non-automated work environments.
  • Ability to handle materials, objects and procedures that require a great attention to detail and exceptional manual dexterity.
  • Capability to operate basic lab equipment (e.g. power supply units, digital multi-meters, oscilloscope), and apply those skills to testing evaluation boards/ICs as needed and instructed by engineers.
  • Ability to follow complex written and/or verbal instructions precisely, taking pride in striving for perfection. Confident in asking engineers for clarification when instructions are unclear.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) as the work will be in a team environment that is very data-driven, and we often work with teams/people in other time zones.
  • Computer skills including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Office, Excel, Word), as well as key design tools such as Cadence Allegro and OrCad. Ability to learn and navigate various internal systems related to sample/order management, purchasing, etc.
  • Experience with supplier management and or collaborating with remote engineering teams
  • Technical expertise schematic design and PCB layout, and specifically related to DCDC power converters
  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast paced, dynamic environment where objectives and tasks don’t always occur serially and can change frequently.
  • Strong understanding of servicing customers, and what customer support entails regarding internal (the immediate team, and other teams) and external customers (our end customers) and takes pride to ensure the best possible support is provided.
  • Experience with ISO lab compliance
  • Highly organized
