We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Software Engineer (f/m/d) to join the team here in our Renesas Automotive Core Technology department based in Dusseldorf. We work from requirement engineering to PoC (proof of concept) for advanced Automotive networking technologies. It involves internal evaluation of these technologies with customers to define product strategies and specification requirements. Work also includes the creation of technical demonstration systems for global exhibitions and fairs.

We participate in various industry bodies to develop future networking standards for Automotive. All activities are based around advanced Automotive technologies like autonomous driving and ADAS. Some of the key tasks for this role are as follows:

  • Linux device drivers and low level device drivers
  • BSP (board support package) and board bring up
  • Testing on Renesas kits and FPGA platforms
  • Socket programming
  • Industry consortia participation
  • Hardware / Software partitioning

You will work across all aspects of the software design cycle and work closely with the hardware team. Work would also involve representing Renesas in conferences, exhibitions and papers of futuristic networking technologies in automotive.



  • Degree in electronic engineering, software engineering or equivalent
  • Proficient knowledge of C and C++
  • Low level driver development experience
  • Board bring up-experience
  • Creative and structured approach to problem solving and debugging
  • Self-motivated and highly resourceful
  • Passionate about your contribution and self-improvement
  • Ability to work independently and in a distributed team environment
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken), German would be an advantage
  • Valid work permit for Germany



  • Working knowledge of ARM 32-bit or 64-bit architectures
  • Previous experience in any of the following: Linux Kernel, U-Boot or Android development/support
  • Good understanding of remote procedure calls
  • Network driver development experience
  • Open Source Software experience
  • Good understanding of hardware concepts
  • Understanding of configuration management principle
  • Understanding and experience on Automotive network protocols and network bridging/routing principles.
