Location:                 Austin, TX

Reports To:             Design Director

About the team:      As part of Renesas’s Infrastructure Power Business, you will oversee the development process of our next-generation ICs for low-voltage, high-current, power applications.

What we need:        We are seeking a Program Manager to facilitate the design, verification and validation of digital power IC’s for the server and computing markets.  You will work directly with our IC design managers and design leaders to navigate our development process through the full design cycle and coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure on-time delivery of customer samples and production release.

What you will do

  • Ensure adherence to our processes
    • Track all items required for NPI milestones to closure
    • Maintain our issue- and task-tracking systems—ensure that Jira tracking system accounts for all project activities and that engineering staff is following protocols for issue workflow
    • Sign-off Design, Verification and Validation specs for completeness and adherence to templates
    • Sign-off Verification and Validation coverage and spec compliance reports for completeness
  • Advise and report on program priorities
    • Host team meetings to maintain awareness of, and to direct priorities for, design, verification, and validation activities
    • Represent the Design team in cross-functional meetings with Marketing, Applications, Product, Test, Packaging … to maintain awareness of activities outside of the design organization that affect the program priorities
    • Track and report on program status to management and the engineering staff
  • Deal with problems
    • Anticipate:      Identify schedule risks early.  Plan for contingencies.
    • Prevent:           Look for opportunities to realign/add resources before delays manifest
    • React:              Work with managers and staff to coordinate efficient problem solving
  • Drive improvements in our processes
    • Identify opportunities to accelerate development cycle times or improve product quality through resource sharing with other teams, corporate resources, outside consulting, new tools or methodologies, …
    • Perform end-of-project reviews to identify and close gaps in our processes and milestone signoffs

Skills and Experience You’ll Need

  • Demonstrated track record of overseeing the development of commercially successful IC products
  • Outstanding organizational skills are essential.
  • Strong communications and broad technical skills are required.  Your role is to facilitate efficient navigation through each program milestone.  This is best accomplished by allowing the engineering staff to focus on their day-to-day tasks while you keep the team aware of the big picture.  This requires a sufficient understanding on your part of IC design and the ability to provide crystal clear objectives.
  • Flexibility and negotiation skills are needed.  The server market is very dynamic.  Customer’s definitions and schedules change dramatically from business plan to production release and our priorities flow directly from theirs.  You must stay continually engaged with the Marketing team and negotiate priorities for the optimal business outcome.
