Job Title: Silicon Validation Leader

Reports To: Sr. Director, Electrical Design Engineering

Renesas Electronics Americas (REA) is a dynamic, multi-cultural tech company where employees can learn, mentor and thrive. REA brings together the strong financial foundation of a multi-billion dollar global operation and the flexibility and velocity of a smaller organization. We are developing technologies for the latest advances in mobile computing, secured connected devices, autonomous driving, smart homes and factories and more. Our solutions are at the heart of products developed by the major innovators around the world. Join us and be part of what’s next in electronics.

About the team:  This is an opportunity to join Renesas’s Mobility, Infrastructure and IoT Power Business Division in Austin, TX, working on next-generation digital power products.

What we need: We are seeking a broadly skilled validation leader to guide the development of validation infrastructure and the execution of validation of our digital power IC’s.  This will involve the developing of automated test capabilities, specifying test equipment and hardware, and executing pre- and post-silicon validation plans.  Our digital PWM controllers are complex mixed-signal SOC’s with an embedded MCU; therefore, you will need to be conversant in analog and logic circuits, state machines, power electronics, firmware and software, with reasonable depth in a few of these.  You will interface with silicon design, verification, test and applications engineers all of which are on-site in our Austin facility.

What You’ll do

  • Work with design, verification, applications and test engineers to specify pre- and post-silicon validation plans
  • Pre-silicon validation is performed using FPGA emulation of our ICs
  • Post-silicon validation is performed on full-system evaluation boards
  • Coordinate with verification team to leverage and maintain parallelism between verification and validation
  • Work with applications engineers to define validation hardware and test conditions consistent with customer usage
  • Lead validation team in executing validation plans.  This will include:
  • Allocation of test equipment
  • Set up and debug of bench hardware for repeatable results
  • Data management
  • Report generation
  • Bug reporting and resolution
  • Lead validation team in the development of advanced automated testing.  This may include
  • Regressable sign-off testing for firmware updates
  • Development of constrained-random pass-fail testing
  • Portability of tests to/from verification sim environment
  • Development of modular test routines to facilitate reuse
  • Creative means of ongoing enhancements to verification methods for higher throughput, better coverage and lower cost

Skills and Experience You’ll Need

  • BS required, minimum of 10 years' experience
  • Demonstrated track record of technical leadership for commercially successful IC’s
  • Ability to self-direct and own validation
  • Ability to communicate technical information precisely with all engineering disciplines related to IC development
  • Understanding of
  • Datasheets specs and implications for compliance testing
  • Capabilities and limitations of all the typical equipment, plus some specialty eq. for power electronics
  • Operating condition impacts on test equipment, PCBs and DUT: voltage drift and noise, temp, etc.; and how to mitigate for reliable data collection
  • IC Interfaces
  • Serial interface protocols
  • Signal integrity
  • ADC input networks

Expertise in one or more of the following

  • Power electronics
  • Lab automation
  • Embedded MCUs and firmware
  • FPGA synthesis
  • High-speed serial Interfaces
  • PCB design and layout
  • Software development
  • Scripting
  • Circuit simulation
